Samuel Dixon McCully was the first undertaker and funeral director in Idaville, Indiana located at the northwest corner of Main and U.S. Hwy 24. He began as a carpenter and then also became an undertaker sometime in the late 1870's. The McCully's were one of the founders of Idaville in 1860. Samuel McCully was followed by his son, J.H. McCully who later moved to a room on Main St., south of the railroad. In 1902, Mr. Thompson bought the business from J.H. McCully, but in a short time sold it back to him. L.E. Miller bought the furniture and undertook the business from J.H. McCully in 1920. In 1927, L.E. Miller and Arthur C. Prevo operated an Undertaking Parlor together for about five years. Loran was in business until his death in 1941. Loran's sons, Earl and Ralph Miller were licensed funeral directors in 1924 and Ralph joined his father in business in 1928. A third son, Fred, managed the family drug store. The Miller family operated in two different locations in Idaville until 1943 when Ralph bought the Small Funeral Home on North Illinois St. near where the United Telephone Co. now stands in Monticello. Both Ralph and Fred moved to Monticello and one year later they moved to the corner of Illinois and Harrison where the business is now located. In 1967, Ralph retired and sold half interest to Harry Voorhis and half interest to his brother Fred. Later, the funeral home name was changed to Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home, Inc. In 1974, the tornado destroyed the funeral home and a new building was built and completed in September of 1975. Fred Miller retired in 1986 and sold his interest to Harry Voorhis. Mark Draper then became a partner with Harry Voorhis later that same year and the funeral home name changed to Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in 1991. In 1994, Harry retired and Mark Draper took full ownership. In 2002, J.D. Fisher from Logansport purchased the funeral home and owned it for a short while under the name of Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home until Randy and Kathryn Springer purchased it in Feb. of 2007 and continue ownership to this day under the name of Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home.

The Springer's are proud to carry on the tradition and heritage of the family owned funeral home for over a century of continuous service. The Springer's maintain the integrity and safe-keeping of the original existing records back to 1892.
