William H. "Bill" Swartz, 74, Monticello, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014, at home with his family. Bill was born May 7, 1940, in Reynolds, to the late Sonnie Hubert and Dora (Mitchell) Swartz. He married Lorna Marvin March 18, 1962, she survives in Monticello. Bill lived most of his life in Monticello. He attended Purdue University. He served in the Army at Fort Hood, Killen, TX, where he wrote for The Armored Sentinel. He owned multiple Monticello businesses, including service stations and a Yamaha dealership. He was a former director of First National Bank. He designed and built several Monticello homes and actively traded the stock market. Bill loved good sense, integrity, a good value, straight lines, words with a nice turn of phrase, sharp pencils, beautiful wood, chicken and noodles, chocolate candy, election-year politics, accurate Schedule Ds, college basketball, Colts football, penny slots, stray cats, his children, and most of all, his wife, "Lornet." Survivors include wife, Lorna; daughter, Kelly (Tony) Bell, Carnation, Washington; son, Andy Swartz, West Lafayette; mother-in-law, Lydia (Geisler) Marvin, Monticello; brothers, Ken (Mary) Swartz, Monticello, and Larry (Sara) Swartz, Lafayette; sister, Shirley (Paul) Buschman, Monticello; and three good cats. Cremation memorial service is Monday, January 5, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. with eulogies by his children at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Happy Tails Animal Care Center or another humane society of the donors choice.
