William "Bill" Businger, Jr., 89, of Monticello, died early Friday morning, July 5, 2013 at his residence. He was born December 7, 1923 in Hicksville, Ohio to the late William and Leona (Lindsey) Businger. He married Eleanor Campbell on May 17, 1944 and she preceded him in death July 4, 1995. Bill was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Mark Center High School in Defiance, Ohio and a veteran of the United States Navy. He served during WWII on the USS Stanton, a destroyer escort. He was awarded two bronze stars. He had owned and operated the Dairy Barn Convenience Stores in Monticello and surrounding areas. In 1984, he began wintering in Florida including this past winter. He enjoyed square dancing, Tuesday night car shows held at the Court House square, and playing his keyboard. Several years ago he enjoyed participating in the area church dart ball league. He enjoyed camping trips with his grandsons when they were all younger. He cherished his family, and was especially proud of his grandsons, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandsons. He loved showering them with his big hugs. He is survived by his son, Lonnie Lee (Cynthia) Businger of Monticello; grandsons, Rondee (Melisa) Businger of Medford, Oregon, Ryan (Tracy) Businger of Monticello; sister, Estelle Balser in Ohio; four great grandchildren, Justine, Gabrielle, Gage, Gavin; and two great-great grandsons, Brenley and Bryson. He was also preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 4pm until 8pm, Monday, July 8 at New Hope Lutheran Church. Friends may also call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm, Tuesday, July 9, at New Hope Lutheran Church with John Westfall officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello. Memorial contributions may be given to New Hope Lutheran Church.
