Virginia Gilbert

Virginia A. Gilbert, 92, of Monticello, died at 9:47 pm, Saturday, July 10, 2010 at White County Memorial Hospital. She was born October 21, 1917 in Monticello to the late Wilford Ralph and Carrie (Atkins) Alkire. Her marriage was to Winford B. "Wynn" Gilbert, Jr. on December 7, 1940, and he preceded her in death February 9, 2007. Virginia was primarily a homemaker, but also assisted her husband at the Wynn B. Gilbert Public Accounting Firm. She was a Member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. She was a 1935 graduate of Monticello High School. She attended Purdue University and also Indiana State University. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Tippecanoe Country Club, Crystal Chapter order of Eastern Star, Tri Kappa, and the Fortnightly Bridge Club all of Monticello. She was survived by two nieces, Nancy (Gordon) Kissner of Salisbury, MD, Kay (Herbert) Wilkinson of Chestertown, MD; two nephews, Alan Alkire, and Paul (Nancy) Biederwolf of Delphi, and a cousin, Gary Cooper. She is preceded in death by a brother, Ralph H. Alkire. Funeral Services will be at 10 am, Thursday, July 15 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Raderstorf officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello. Memorial donations may be given according to the wishes of the donor.
