Virdie B. 'Mac' Byers

Virdie B. "Mac" Byers, 91, of Monticello, died at 8:30am, Saturday, February 11, 2012 at her son's residence in Indianapolis. She was born June 1, 1920 in Kentucky to the late Hubert and Rosie (Manning) Ray. Her first marriage was to Frank McCormick in 1952. He died in 1958. She married Arnet Byers on December 24, 1964 in Hammond. He died on March 3, 1991. She graduated from Tilghman High School in Paducah, Kentucky and also Murray State College in Kentucky. Mrs. Byers was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Monon. Mrs. Byers worked for Amalgamated Clothing workers of America. She worked with Byers Heating and Air Conditioning Co. in Hammond, retiring in 1979. Mrs. Byers worked at Indiana Beach campground for several years. She is survived by a son, Donald L. (Judy) McCormick of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Rhonda (Ron) Haager of Williamton, IL; 3 stepsons, Joe L. (Juanita) Byers of St. John, Arnet (Karla) Byers, Jr. of Florida, William C. Byers of Indiana; stepdaughter, Nancy (Ray) Maza of Arkansas; granddaughter, Rachel K. Bowker of Lafayette; great granddaughter, Marley Rose Bowker of Lafayette; niece, Marcia Koller of Paduch, KY; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm Thursday, February 16 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Rev. Steve Sparks officiating. Burial will be at Riverview I.O.O.F. cemetery in rural Monticello. Memorials may be given to the family.
