Valerie June Kubly, 83, of Monticello, died at 9:40 am, Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Whispering Pines. She was born February 17, 1927 in Logansport to the late Charles P. Settlemyre and Valerie I. (Roy) Settlemyre Hyman. She was married to Norman E. Kubly on June 6, 1948 in Logansport. He preceded her in death April 17, 2001. She was a 1945 graduate of Logansport High School, moving to Monticello in 1948 and residing there until 1974. She and her husband then moved to Toledo, Ohio until Norman retired in 1993 and subsequently returned to Monticello. She worked as the guidance secretary at Twin Lakes High School. While living in Toledo, she was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where she served as the church treasurer. She was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church where she was very active in many of the church circles, as well as Rainbow Senior Group. She sang in the church choir, directed the youth choir, sang solos, and participated in a trio at the church. She was a member of the Alpha Nu Music Club and had been a member of Tri Kappa Sorority. She was passionate about music and enjoyed singing, playing the violin, and the piano. She was known for her love of cooking. Survivors include sons, Jeffrey (Pamela) Kubly of Fort Wayne, Timothy (Penny) Kubly of Murrieta, California, and Charles (Sandra) Kubly of Monticello; grandsons, Chad, Zachary (Lindsey), Ryan, Riley, and Steven Kubly; granddaughters, Kelsey Kubly and McKenzie (Craig) Falvo. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm Friday, August 27, 2010 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello and from 10 to 11am, Saturday, at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Services will follow at 11 am, Saturday, at the church with Rev. Brian Beeks officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello. Memorial contributions may be given to Twin Lakes High School Band Boosters or to Monticello United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
