Sylvania Ruth Marcum, 82, of Monticello, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008, at 4:45 a.m., at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center. She was born April 17, 1925 in Manchester, Kentucky to the late Taylor Gilbert Marcum and the late Nancy Margaret (Roberts) Marcum. Miss. Marcum was a member of the Sitka Baptist Church, wherer she had taught Sunday School for more than 35 years. She wa a 1943 graduate of North Manchester High School and a 1946 graduate of Indiana Business College in Logansport. She was employed during her early years at the State and Savings Bank. She later worked as a medical receptionist with Dr. Dickerson's office for more than 30 years. Althouh she was never married, Aunt Sue placed her attention towards children. She loved children and appreciated their minds. Survivors include: 4 Sisters, Audrey Mae Funk of Monticello; Inez Criswell of Monticello; Mary Alice (Jim) Pickett of Idaville; Ethel Irene (Lewis) Mullins of Jenison, MI; Many Nieces and Nephews; and many Great-Nieces & Great-Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 Sister, Mildred Hopkins; 3 Brothers, Buel, Cecil B., and Claude Suel Marcum. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at 10:30AM at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Dr. James Elliott of the Sitka Baptist Church will officate services. Burial will be in the Hughes Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Sitka Baptist Church. Evnelopes will be available at the funeral home.
