Steven White Carter, 70, of Monticello, passed away at 1:28 pm on February 16, 2020 at I.U. Health Arnett Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born on July 13, 1949 in Lafayette to the late Robert D. and Janet (White) Carter. On July 18, 1970 he married Linda Good at Pike Creek Church of the Brethren. She survives in Monticello.
Steve was a 1967 graduate of Twin Lakes High School. Steve was a member of the Buffalo Christian Church. He attended Sun Engine Testing in Chicago. Steve's schooling also included, Hasting Piston Rings, and continuing education in Euclid Equipment on Detroit Diesel engines. He was president and owner of Carter Block, Inc. and SLD Transport. He was a member of the Libanus Lodge F&AM #154, F&AM Royal Center Lodge #585, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. Steve was also a member of the Murat Shine in Indianapolis and the White County Shrine club. He was the past president of the Liberty Township Board. Steve was the 1999 conservationist of the year from Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, the outdoors, and most of all time spent with his grandkids.
Surviving along with his wife, Linda are his children, Jill D. (Jeff) Reed and David (Sam) Carter both of Monticello; two sisters, Emily (Bill) Moore of Ozark, MO, Claudia (James) Earnest of Columbus; six grandchildren, Caleb, Brendan, Shelby, Kelsi, Rylie and Morgan; and his faithful companions, Winnie and Ben.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Carter.
Visitation will be from 4 pm until 7 pm, on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.
Funeral services will begin at 7pm, Saturday at the funeral home commencing with Masonic rites, followed by a Shrine walk-by, and concluded with a message delivered by Rev. Keith Raderstorf.
Private burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery. Memorial contributions are encouraged to Happy Tails, Buffalo Fire Department or White County Shrine Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
