Shirley L. Buell, 74, of Monticello, formerly of Reynolds died at 9:55 am, Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Whispering Pines, Monticello. She was born November 25, 1934 at Kankakee, IL to the late Edward and Anna Mae Anderson Mikkelson. Her marriage was to James C. Buell on May 18, 1952 at the Reynolds United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death January 22, 1991. She was a graduate of Reynolds High School where she was the Salutatorian of her class. Shirley was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church. She was active in the Quilters, and also the Study Club at the Church. She co-owned and operated Buell Auto Parts with her husband for many years. She loved cooking and known best for her ham gravy. She was family oriented and loved doting on her grandchildren. Shirley worked hard at the auto parts business, but enjoyed her liesure time with reading, square dancing, and Country and Western music. One of her most cherished moments was when she was honored grandmother of her grandchildrens softball league. Survivors include: 3 Daughters, Barb Shepherd of Monticello, IN, Bev (Rick) Buschman of Reynolds, IN, Donna (Brian) Crisp of Monticello, IN; 2 Brothers, Bob (Carol) Mikkelson of Watseka, IL, Don (Chris) Mikkelson of Bradley, IL; 8 Grandchildren, Shawn (Julie) Shepherd, Josh Pavey, Caleb (Allyson) Pavey, Aimee (Chad) Criswell, April Pruet, Elaine Buschman, Becky (Timmy) Segal, Amanda (Matt) Holderly; and 9 Great-Grandchildren She is preceded in death by her husband, James Buell; and sister, Lois Plummer Visitation will be from 5pm until 8pm, Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10am, Friday, at Springer-Voorhis -Draper Funeral Home with Rev. Andrea Bremmer of the Reynolds United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello. Memorials may be made to the Reynolds United Methodist Church, or to the Alzheimers Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
