Shirley A. Rice, 78, of Wabash, died at 6:45 pm, Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born September 1, 1933 in Monticello to the late Russell and Helen (Bunnell) Campbell. She married Ellis M. Rice on August 15, 1954 in the Monticello United Methodist Church and he survives. She was a 1951 graduate of Garrett High School. She was primarily a homemaker but also worked various jobs over the years. She had worked as a telephone operator, assistant manager at Adlers dress shop, and also for Bryans manufacturing all of Monticello. She was employed as the manger of the perfume department at Goldblatts Department Store, Mishawaka. She worked as a manicurist at Chrisma Beauty Shop in Palatine, IL. She was part owner and manager of Unique Flower and Gift Shop in Warsaw. Before retiring in 1985, she worked part-time at Uniroyal also in Warsaw. She enjoyed flower gardening, bowling, arts and crafts, and pottery and ceramics. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Sorority where she held many offices. Sigma Alpha is a philanthropic sorority dedicated to raising money for the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita, KS. She was a member of Wabash Chapter #90 of OES. She is also survived by two daughters, Vicki (Mike) Filip of Wabash, Jeri (Mike) Hanssen of Kenosha, Wisconsin; two sons, Joseph (Angie) Rice of Monticello, Stephen (Jennie) Rice of Fort Wayne; brother, Jerry Campbell of Mahomet, Illinois; grandchildren, Kimberly (Torin) King of Fort Wayne, Russell Gieras of Wabash, Kaeli Hanssen of Kenosha, WI; and step-grandchildren, Kristi (Todd) Lincoln of Goodlettsville, TN, Jessica Taylor of San Antonio, Tx, Heather (Chris) Johnson of Warsaw, Shawn and Jeremy Filip both of Serbia, IN. Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of services at 1 pm, Monday, April 2, 2012 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Beeks of the Monticello United Methodist Church officiating. Eastern Star services will be at 12:45 pm. Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello. Memorial contributions may be given to Wabash County Animal Shelter, 810 Manchester Ave., Wabash, IN 46992. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
