Sheila K. Haughawout, 71 of Monticello, Indiana died at 4:55 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the home of her daughter in West Lafayette. She was born on June 1, 1944 in Wakonda, South Dakota to the late William S. and Mary V. Young. She married John D. Haughawout on October 18, 1988. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2012. Sheila graduated from Yankton High School in 1962. She moved to the Monticello area in 1971 and raised her two children. It was in Monticello that she started her long and successful career in newspaper and advertising. She worked at the Reminder weekly publication for several years and moved on to work for publications in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.After marrying John she moved back to the Monticello area. She enjoyed golfing, boating, and spending time with her grandchildren. After retiring as Director of Advertising from the Lafayette Business Journal, she continued to stay busy with various interests and opened a home goods shop. She is survived by her children, Andrea Parrish (Chet Helton) of West Lafayette, Michael Fitz (Tracy) of Carmel, Jill Haughawout, Grant Haughawout (Erin), both of Indianapolis; six grandchildren: Nicholas and Ryan Parrish, Blake and Caroline Fitz, Cooper and Cameron Haughawout and great grandchild, Marissa Parrish. Also surviving are sister, Rose Clancy of California and brothers, Pat Young (Joan), California and Jack Young, South Dakota.Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Parrish; brother, Bill Young and sisters, Celeste Sands and Patty Young. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. (ET) to 7:00 p.m. (ET) Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. The Rosary will be prayed at 3:45 p.m. (ET) at the funeral home.A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. (ET) Thursday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello with Fr. David Rasner celebrating. Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in rural Monticello.Memorial donations may be given to Guardian Angel Hospice of Lafayette. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be extended at www.springerfuneralhome.com The family would like to say a special thanks to Guardian Angel Hospice of Lafayette for their invaluable help in the last few weeks.
