Serephia 'Sue' Henke

Serephia Sue Henke, 94 On September 21, 2009, Serephia Sue Henke, 94, departed this world to join in praising her Heavenly Father. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 6, 1915, to Earl and Emma Diehl. On June 10, 1939, she married Arthur Gustav Henke of Gary, Indiana. They lived in Gary and Portage, Indiana, where they reared three children. They were also foster parents to two children. Following her husbands death in 1974, she lived with her daughters family, with whom she moved to Monticello in 1984. Cherished by her family and many close friends as Gramma Sue, her love for others was evident. This love was surpassed only by tender passion for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Sue was an active member of Zion Bethel Church, and corresponded regularly with the churchs missionaries. She had been active at the Monticello Senior Citizen Center, and had participated in their chorus. She enjoyed volunteering and helping others, and was a mighty prayer warrior. Her godly legacy has impacted the lives of her friends and family: sons Leslie Arthur Henke (deceased) and Dennis Larry Henke and wife Angie (Rock Hill, SC), daughter Lois Jean (Rick) Forster (Monticello), grandchildren Dale Henke, Dennis Henke, Peter (Wendy) Forster, Christa Forster, and Bethany Forster, and also 9 great grand children. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm. Wed. September 23, 2009, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 am. Thursday September 24, 2009 at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Messer of the Zion Bethel Church officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.
