Ruth "Ginny" Virginia Houchin, 89, of Monticello, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at her residence.
She was born on April 16, 1931 in Toulon, IL to the late Leslie and Kathryn Irene (Bruner) Witten. On December 16, 1951 she married Donald F. Houchin at the Methodist Church in Clinton, IL and he preceded her in death on December 29, 2020.
Ginny was a graduate of Toulon High School and was the class valedictorian. She was primarily a homemaker but worked as the town clerk in Otterbein for a few years.
She was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church and was a member of the Rainbow Club. She was a former member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She was a former member of the Elks.
Ginny was a creative and amazing artist who loved drawing. Along with being a fine seamstress and making all of Don's business suits, she also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and was an avid bird watcher. Her family describes Ginny as having a sense of elegance in everything she did. She was a beautiful person which was reflective in her methodical, patient, sweet and reserved mannerisms. Ginny cherished time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Donald Lyle Houchin of CA, Denise Greives of Lafayette, and Dwight (Michelle) Houchin of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rickey, William, Dustin, Joshua, Melissa, Benjamin, Isabella, Jason, Aubrey, and Fauna; and several great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Houchin; sisters, Wanda Goodwin, Lorraine Walker, and Carol Ann Boaz; and brother, James Witten.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of services celebrating Ginny's life at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Brian Beeks officiating.

Entombment will follow in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
