Russell T. "Russ" Vandervate, 69, of Lafayette at died 12:48 pm, Sunday, May 1, 2011 St. Elizabeth East Hospital of Lafayette. He was born October 30, 1941 in Chicago to the late Cornelius and Katherine (Byrne) Vandervate. He married Barbara J. Houston in April of 1962 in Rensselaer. She preceded him in death February 10, 2006. He was a 1959 graduate of Rensselaer High School. He worked forty-eight years in the printing department at Purdue from which he retired. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was passionate about collecting and liked auctions and flea markets. He was a music enthusiast attended many music festivals. He also enjoyed his "Road Trips". He is survived by two sons, Terry (Jenny) Vandervate of Lafayette, Robert (Tina) Vandervate of Danville, Indiana; two daughters, Katherine (Bruce) Rainey of Lafayette, Kris Verplank of Lafayette; fourteen grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter., one Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services will be at 11 am, Thursday at the funeral home with his sister-in-law, Carol Wild officiating. Burial will be in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery at a later date.
