Early Saturday morning, October 5, 2024, Rosemary Jean Stelter Anderson passed from this world into the arms of Jesus while her son, Jason, held her hand surrounding her with his earthly love and devotion.
Rosemary was born on September 5, 1946 in Chicago Heights, IL to Elmer and Rose Stelter. Her young adult life was marked with many difficult times: the loss of her firstborn, Maureen, the loss of her only sister, Carolyn, and both parents all before her 35th birthday. Her beloved husband, Michael, passed away at just 56 years old leaving her a widow much too soon. Despite this tragedy, Rosemary, known to those who held her dearest as Rosebud, steadfastly maintained an optimistic view of life and continuously sought opportunities to make God’s world a bit brighter. Without a doubt, her constant smile, quiet laugh, kindness for all, and unwavering belief in each person’s endless possibility will be her legacy.
Rosemary was baptized and confirmed at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Chicago Heights. She graduated high school at from Bloom High School, Chicago Heights. From an early age, Rosemary sensed a call to teaching. She pursued studies at Southern Illinois University and graduated with a BS in Education.She married Michael Lewis Anderson on November 30, 1968. In 1985 the family moved from Chicago Heights to their Lake Shafer cottage.
For over 37 years, Rosemary taught middle and high school math, spending most of her career at North White Middle/High School. Even after retirement, Rosemary continued to tutor local youth in math.
A multitude of treasured friends filled her life with joy. Rosemary enjoyed many fun times with her girlfriends: lunches at Harvest Time, weekly Bunco parties, and trips to the Blue Chip Casino. She was always saving up for the next adventure.
Rosemary is preceded in death by her husband, Michael, parents, sister, and newborn daughter, Maureen.
Survivors include a son, Jason M Anderson of Brownsburg, IN, and a daughter, Sarah (John) Brady of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Jeremiah Anderson, Ruth Hites, Brooke Brown, Emma & Blake Anderson, Jack Brady and Claire Brady; daughters-in-law, Tonia Anderson, Katy Hites, Shaina Brown, and Shannon Hill.The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care that Hospice provided to Rosemary in these final days.
Visitation will be from 4pm until 8pm (EDT) on Monday, October 14, 2024 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello and also one hour prior to funeral services at 10am (EDT) on Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds with Pastor Andrew Keller officiating and Pastor William Parsons participating.
Burial will follow at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Flossmoor, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests and encourages memorial contributions St. James Lutheran Church childcare ministry in Reynolds.
