Romaine A. Simala

Romaine A. Simala, 74, of Monon, passed away at 4:06 am, Friday, May 8, 2015 at IU Health White Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 5, 1941 in Chicago to the late John and Mary (Anaczewski) Gormack. On March 5, 1990 in Gary, she married Leonard J. Simala and he survives. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. Mrs. Simala worked at St. Margarets Hospital in Hammond and later at the old White County Memorial Hospital in the pharmacy. She also worked at Walmart. Romaine enjoyed reading,boating, and her trips to Florida. She loved being a mother and grandmother and cherished time spent with her children, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Leonard, she is survived by stepchildren, Dennis (Diane) Simala of Highland, Lenny Simala, Jr. of North Carolina, Diane Gilmore of Las Vegas, Barbara Fayette of Hammond, Nancy (Sam) Karras of Rensselaer, Jackie (Mike) DeChantal of Highland, Cecilia (Harry) Peterson of Whiting; brother, John (Judy) Gormack of Mokena, IL; sixteen step-grandchildren, and eleven great step-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Elsner; and twin sons. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm (EDT) until 8:00 pm (EDT), Monday, May 11, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. The Rosary will be prayed a 6:00 pm (EDT) at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 am (EDT),Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father David Rasner officiating. Burial will follow at Bedford Cemetery, Monon. Memorial contributions or Mass Cards may be offered to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with envelopes available.
