Robert Paul Schmitter, 82, passeed away Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Winamac. he was born on February 13, 1926 in Delphi to the late Frank and Marie (McGreevey) Schmitter. His marriage was to Sharon Damon on October 28, 1950 at the St. Patricks Catholic Church, Kokomo. She preceded in death on April 12, 1999. Mr. Schmitter was a veteran of the United States Army. He moved to Monticello in 1959, and had been a farmer prior to his move. He became a truck driver and a business owner until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Monticello. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include: 2 Sons, John Schmitter of Medaryville, Matthew (Susie) Schmitter of Ringgold, GA; 5 Daughters, Therese (Wayne) Zook of Fountaintown, IN, Virginia Jacobs of Calhoun, GA, Cynthia Moore of Monticello, Laura Young of Rossville, GA, Barbara (Peter) Broedel of Monticello, IN; 3 Brothers, Tobias Schmitter of Frankfort, Hubert Schmitter of New Orleans, LA, Lawrence Schmitter of Elwood, IN; 2 Sisters, Anna Wetli of Earl Park, IN, Mary Busald of Rushville, IN; 5 Grandchildren, Danny, Alissa, Corina, Jeff, and Gabby; 7 Great-Grandchildren; and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his: Wife Sharon; Son, Mark Schmitter; Daugther, Sandra Schmitter; Sister, Marie Randall; Brothers, Francis, Richard, and Paul Scmitter; and Grandchildren, Amanda, Nicole, Katherine, and Mitchell. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6:30 p.m. (EDT), Monday, September 22 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. A Rosary service will be held at 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home A funeral mass will be at 7 p.m. (EDT) at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Monday, September 22, 2008, with Father Gerald Borawski officiating. Interment will be in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Foundation.
