Robert J. Seward

Robert J. " Bob Seward" , 82, of Monticello, died at 3:42 am on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at IU Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born February 3, 1929 in Hammond to the late John K. and Florence Seward. His first marriage was to Nathleen Kuppinger. She survives in Hammond. His second marriage was to Juanita Devins on June 22, 1984 in Hammond. She survives in Monticello. Mr. Seward graduated from Hammond Tech High School. He worked for Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad. Mr. Seward was the head custodian for Hammond School system for 26 years, retiring in 1991. From 1992 to 2004 he worked as the manager of the guard shack at the Indiana Beach Campground. He enjoyed sitting on his deck and watching the Indiana Beach ferry go by. He loved long quiet talks with Juanita. Mr. Seward enjoyed going to Turkey Run and also enjoyed his three cats, Whitey, Domino and Midnight. He enjoyed having coffee and donuts at Casey's. He is also survived by 2 daughters, Pamela Michel of Munster, Vicki (Mike) Winarski of Schererville; 2 stepdaughters, Linda (Greg) Sanchez of Merrillville, Karen (Randy) Kirleis of North Webster; stepson, Frank (Kim) Gear of Schererville; sister, Norine Lakin of Daulton, IL; 5 Grandchildren, Jimmy Seward, Krystle (James) Ebben, Bryan Michel, Shawn Michel, Jessica Winarski and Lauryn Winarski; 1 Great-Grandchild, Lukas Ebben; 9 Step Grandchild, Jon Lannin, Christopher Sanchez, Veronica Sanchez, Rebecca Lamont, Jennifer Julian, Robert Kirleis, Amanda Gear, Tom Gear, Megan Gear; 14 Step Great Grandchildren, Michael, Alexis, Nicholas, Devin, Quinton, Davaya, Dianh, Brittany,Courtney, Tyler, Connor,Dominick, Brooklynn, Kayleigh. He is also survived by several Nieces and Nephews. He is preceded in death by a son, James Seward; brother, Jack Seward; sister, Doris Miller; step granddaughter, Nicole and step grandson Randy. Visitation will be from 10am to 11:30am EDT, Saturday, August 27 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 am EDT with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond at 3pm EDT with Father Mosley officating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
