Robert 'Bob' Zerth

Robert "Bob" Zerth, 83, of Monticello near Buffalo passed away at 1:12 pm, Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his residence. He was born on September 24, 1931 in Chicago to the late Julius & Hazel (Schade) Zerth. He married Retta Hines on December 5, 1951, in Burnettsville, and she survives. After graduating from Harper High School in Chicago, Bob lived in the Buffalo community all of his life. His primary occupation was a farmer raising crops, cattle, hogs, and chickens, but he had various additional occupations throughout his career. He worked at Bryan Manufacturing, was a surveyor for the USDA government, drove a school bus, and was the trustee of Liberty Township. Bob was a member and served as head Deacon at the Sitka Baptist Church. He later became a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello. Bob had a passion for the outdoors, gardening, and music. He was known for playing the marimba. Bob loved spending time with his family, watching the grandchildren grow up, and visits from the great grandchildren. Also surviving are his seven children, Linda (husband Dennis) Thompson of Matteson, Illinois, Jerry (wife Donna) Zerth of Monticello, Lugene "Lu" (husband Steve) McKee of Noblesville, Deborah "Deb" Zerth of Indianapolis, Janice "Jan" (husband Rick) Carlton of Fishers, Marianne "Mari" (husband Steve) Herriford of Indianapolis, and Christi (husband Brian) Perry of Chalmers; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (husband Sam) Butterworth of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Jason (wife Kim) Thompson of Crown Point, Erin (husband Shawn) Ennis of Frisco, Texas, Kristin (husband Drew) Hubrig of San Anselmo, California, Ryan (wife Kaitlin) McKee of Greenwood, Sarah McKee of Chicago, Brooke Zerth of Monticello, Shelbi & Haley Perry of Chalmers, and Kylie Zerth of Indianapolis; six great grandchildren, Luke, Isaac, & Jude Thompson, Joe Butterworth, Owen McKee, and Grant Hubrig;. two brothers, Donald (wife Barbara) Zerth of Lansing, Illinois, and Richard (wife Barbara) Zerth of Palos Park, Illinois. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbert (wife Marjorie) Zerth. Visitation will be from 4pm until 8pm, Thursday, October 23 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. The Funeral home is located at 202 South Illinois Street, Monticello, Indiana. Funeral services will be at 11 am, Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Ryan Bailey of the First Baptist Church of Monticello officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery near Buffalo. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Monticello or to the White County Food Pantry with envelopes available at the funeral home.
