Rita Shaffer-Headdy,75, of Monticello passed away Friday, November 14, 2008 at 4:00 p.m., at Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette. She was born June 19, 1933 in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Lyman and Elizabeth (Toon) Schoentrup. Her marriage was to the late Lawrence Robert Shaffer on August 24, 1957 at the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1995. Rita was a 1951 graduate of Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis. She moved to Monticello from Indianapolis in 1965. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Monticello. She had been a secretary at the Twin Lakes School Corporation in Monticello, retiring after 30 years of service. She was an avid Twin Lakes fan. She also enjoyed working summers at Indiana Beach Camp Ground Minature Golf. She league bowled for 23 years at Monticello Lanes. She enjoyed playing bridge and euchre. Survivors include: Son, Dan (Linda) Shaffer of Westfield; Daughter, Patti (Scott) Hines of North Port, FL; Step-son, Larry Shaffer of Indianapolis; 2 Brothers, Bill (Dottie) Schoentrup of Indianapolis, Joe (Sandy) Schoentrup of Indianapolis; Sister-in-Law, Mary Schoentrup of Indianapolis; 2 Granddaughters, Shannon Payne, Becky Shaffer; Step-Granddaughter, Heather Hines; 4 Grandsons, Ryan Dibble, Brad Shaffer, Blake Hines, Joe Shaffer; and 2 Great-Grandsons, Logan Dibble and Landon Ramsey. She is preceded in Death by her: Parents; Husband; and Brother, Robert Schoentrup. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, November 19 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. A Rosary service will be held at 4p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Thursday, November 20, at 10 a.m. with Father Gerald Borawski officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rural Monticello. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
