Rita Eileen Banes

Rita Eileen Banes, 89, of Monticello, passed away at 6:21 am, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Monticello Healthcare.She was born on August 28, 1928 in Reynolds to the late Levi and Ida (Lilly) Souligne. On August 30, 1947 she married Stanley "Stan" Banes at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds. Stan preceded Rita in death on July 15, 2007.She was a 1947 graduate of Chalmers High School. She considered herself primarily a homemaker, but was the secretary, bookkeeper, and dispatcher of Banes Plumbing and Heating. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. She was also a member of the former Charming Chatty's Home Ec Club.Rita's first passion was fishing. In addition, she enjoyed tending her vegetable garden, canning, computer Solitaire, cooking and baking, especially, making deserts.Surviving are her children, Dan (Pam) Banes of Monticello and Englewood, FL, Richard Banes of Kissimmee, FL, and Diane Swafford of Logansport; ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.She was also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. The Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 pm at the funeral home.A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Saturday, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father David Rasner, the celebrant.Burial will follow in Chalmers Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.Messages of condolence may be extended at www.springerfuneralhome.com
