Richard Conyers

Richard D. Conyers, from Monticello, formerly from Griffith, passed away June 2 in Noblesville at Prairie Lakes Health Campus.He was born on December 16, 1931 in Hammond to the late Richard D. Conyers, Sr. and Jenny M. (Sharp) Conyers. On June 2, 1955 he married Marjorie S. Wagner in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 2000.He was a graduate of Griffith High School and then served in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic at a Standard Gas Station and then bought it and called it Conyers Standard. Later it became Conyers Amoco. Later he sold real estate until the age of 81. He had been a member of the Griffith United Methodist Church and attended Yeoman United Methodist Church. He had been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge, and American Legion. He had his pilot's license and owned his own plane. He enjoyed flying, traveling, wood working, mowing his lawn, taking care of his house and tinkering.He is survived by four daughters, Robin D. Laviolette of Monticello, Laura J. (Terry) Conyers-Mullins of Fishers, IN, Diane (David) Struebig of Hobart, and Kathryn A. Conyers of Monticello; and ten grandchildren.He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Brownwell, and grandson, Cary Goffredo.Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until the time of services at 6:00 pm Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating.Inurnment will take place in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery at a later date.Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warriors.
