Raymond G. Ferdinand, 75, Monticello died at 1:38 pm, Monday, October 19, 2009 at his residence. He was born October 30, 1933 at Reynolds to the late Hiram G. and Iva E. (Scipio) Ferdinand. He married Betty L. Raderstorf August 19, 1951 at Idaville. She survives. Mr. Ferdinand was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Reynolds High School and received his Bachelors and also his Masters degrees from Purdue University. He had been an Industrial Arts Teacher for more than 30 years. He coached most sports and had been the Athletic Director at several Indiana High Schools. He had taught at Roann, Medaryville, Straughn, Fairmount, Frontier, East Tipp, and Battle Ground. He had owned and operated a restaurant at Indiana Beach. He also owned the Monticello Dairy Queen for 15 years. He was the White County Area Plan Director for several years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. serving from 1951-1954 during the Korean War. He served on the White County ARC and CDC Board of Directors for several years. He was a member of the Am Vets and American Legion both of Monticello. He enjoyed sports, but loved Purdue. He loved his family and enjoyed his dogs. Survivors include: Son, Jeff (Jackie) Ferdinand of Monticello; 4 Daughters, Pamela (Mike) Culross of Friendsville, Tennessee, Kimberly (Perry) Powers of Monticello, Brenda Ferdinand of Monticello, Angela McCall (and companion James McKendrie, Jr.) of Lafayette; Brother, Robert D. (Judy) Ferdinand of Charlotte, North Carolina; Sister, Donna K. (Ray) Smith of Muncie; Special Aunt, Gertrude Johns of Monon; Special Uncle, John Ferdinand of Reynolds; 9 Grandchildren; and 7 Great-Grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by and infant brother, Richard. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 pm, Thursday, October 22 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, and one prior services Friday at the church. Funeral services will be at 11 am, Friday, at New Hope Lutheran Church with Rev. Jim Ward officiating. Full military rites will follow services at New Hope Lutheran Church.
