Pope M. Smith

Pope M. Smith, 82, of Lafayette, formerly of Monticello died at 1:00 am, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 St. Elizabeth Central Hospital of Lafayette. He was born July 7, 1927 at Smith, Kentucky to the late Pope M. and Leola Smith. He married Edna Hager in 1961 and she preceded him in death in 1997. He then married Marilyn Geier on September 8, 2000 at Nashville, Indiana, and she survives in Lafayette. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed 9 years for General Motors, and then worked for the Local Laborers Union 274 retiring after 36 years. Other survivors include a stepson, Richard Benjamin of Lafayette; 4 stepdaughters, Deb Calloway of Lafayette, Toni, Donna, and Judy all of Michigan; 4 Sisters, Lucy Short of Michigan, Nancy Arms of Michigan, Henrietta Leckrone of Frankfort, Joann (Albert) Eldridge of Frankfort He is preceded in death by 2 sisters and 1 brother. There will be no services. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, Flat Rock Michigan. Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
