Phyllis Marie Hallar, 86, of Monticello, passed away at 8:35 pm, Monday, May 8, 2017 at White Oak Health Campus.She was born on December 15, 1930 in Americus to the late Alfred and Versa (Giles) Cunningham. On June 24, 1951 she married James "Jim" Hallar at the Presbyterian Church in Delphi and he survives.She was a graduate of Buck Creek High School. After high school, she worked at Purdue University in bookkeeping. Shortly after she and Jim were married she left the university to co-farm with her husband until their retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delphi. She served as director, treasurer, and secretary for White County Farm Bureau. She was a republican committee member and served as Precinct Election Polls Captain for Union Township for over 30 years. She was a member of the Theta Iota Chapter of Psi Iota Xi. She was a passionate and dedicated volunteer for the American Heart Association, and among other supporting roles, she was well known for collecting local donation funds. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and was involved with the jump rope fundraising program. She was a ten year member of 4H, and as an adult, volunteered at AG Day with White County 4H and helped serve meals.Phyllis was a cancer survivor and participated in the Survivor's Lap during White County Relay for Life.She enjoyed drawing and was a lover of art and music. She was an excellent seamstress and cook and was known for her noodles, angel food cake, coconut or banana cream pies, and also her lemon meringue pies.She is survived by three children, James (Cyndy) Hallar Jr. of Vancouver, WA, Michelle (James) Weathers of Wheeling, IL, and Cindy (Mike) Cook of Americus; siblings, Jack (Kate) Cunningham of Lafayette, Helen Foster of Lafayette, Bob (Joyce) Cunningham of Lafayette, Harriett Anderson of Round Lake Beach, IL, Marge (Bill) Schmuki of Littleton, CO; three granddaughters; seven grandsons; and fifteen great-grandchildren.She was also preceded in death by brothers, Dale and Gene Cunningham, sister, Cecil Banghart, and a grandson.Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, May 19, 2017 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.The Presbyterian Deacon's Prayer Circle will be at 9:15 am Saturday at the funeral home.Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the funeral home with Rev. Lyle Ewing of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello and Pastor Dan Gottschalk officiating.Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to Psi Iota Xi, the Alzheimer's Association, or to the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello with envelopes available at the funeral home.
