Orlo H. Shoop, 91, of Monticello died at 7:45 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2009 at White County Memorial Hospital. He was born December 4, 1917 at Havre, Montana to the late Henry H. and Bessie H. (Henderson) Shoop. His marriage was Nancy P. Gilbert on September 20, 1941 at Springfield, Illinois. She preceded him in death June 1, 1991. Orlo was a 1935 graduate of Chalmers High School, and a 1938 graduate of International Business College, Fort Wayne. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello. He had farmed a number of years prior to working for the White County Highway Department until 1974. From 1975 until his retirement in 1983, he was the Maintenance Supervisor at the White County Court House. Shoop was a dedicated volunteer in White County. He had been a board member and past president of the White County Council on Aging. He served as an executive board member for Area IV Agency and Community Services. He was a board member for the White County Food pantry. He was Treasurer and past president for White County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He also served on the chapters disaster committee. He was the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Indianas Medicare ambassador for White County. He was a News Center 13 Weather Watcher. He was the recipient of the1989 White County Volunteer of the Year Award, and the George Armstrong Spencer Award for Outstanding Community Achievement in 1995. Survivors include a son, Orlo Gilbert (Jillaine) Shoop of West Lafayette; grandson, Wesley (Sara) Shoop of West Lafayette; granddaughter, Jenaiah (Nathan) Michael of Houston, Texas; and 1 great-granddaughter, Isabella Shoop. He is also preceded in death by 2 brothers. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Rev. Ruby Kleymann of the Monticello First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to the White County Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
