Michael L. 'Mike' Kilmer

Michael L. "Mike" Kilmer, 64, of Monticello, passed away early Friday morning, February 14, 2014 at IU Health White Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 12, 1950 in Logansport to the late Wilbur and Marjorie "Dee" (Braugh) Kilmer who survives. Mike was a 1968 graduate of Twin Lakes High School and a 1972 graduate of Purdue University where he received his Bachelors degree in horticulture. While still in high school, Mike began working for Switzer's Greenhouse after school and on weekends. After graduating from Purdue University, Mike returned to Monticello and continued working for Switzer's Greenhouse. When the Switzers were ready to retire, Mike purchased the business operating under the name of Monticello Floral until his retirement in 2012. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, loved animals, especially, his two Border Collies, and traveling to Mexico. He also enjoyed interpreting. In addition to his mother, Dee, Mike is survived by a brother, Larry (Linda) Kilmer of Chalmers; a nephew, Jason (Patty) Kilmer of Brookston; a niece, Jennifer (Brett) Foster of Otterbein; and eight great nieces and nephews. The Rosary will be prayed at 5pm and visitation will commence immediately following the Rosary until the time of memorial services at 7pm, Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Services will be officiated respectively by Father Finton Cummings of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds and Pastor Ashli Cartwright-Peak of Oak Grove Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or to Oak Grove Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
