Mary Lou Luse Spicer

Mary Lou Luse Spicer, 87, of Monticello, passed away at 4:40 am, Sunday, May 25, 2014 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello. She was the daughter of the late Val and Inez (VanMeter) Douglass of Monticello. In 1943, she married Kenneth Luse and he preceded her in death in July of 1982. In 1990, she married Beryl Spicer of Sidell, IL and he preceded her in death in 2004. Mary Lou operated her own beauty shop from November of 1961 to November of 1978 in the Monticello area. She was a lifelong member of Sitka Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Sondra (David) Catron of Greenwood, Gayla (Mike) Coonrod of Kimberling City, MO, and Marsha (Rick) Connell of Monticello; stepdaughter, Susan Spicer of St. Francis, KY; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; several great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia; and two brothers, Jack and Noel. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of services at noon, Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Dr. James Elliott of Sitka Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Sitka Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
