Marilyn K. (Koontz) Zartman, 81, Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Monticello and subsequently, Delphi and Clearwater, FL, died, November 6, 2011, at Regency Oaks, Clearwater, FL. She was born September 8, 1930, Lafayette, IN to the late Theodore V. Ted and Thyra Prevo) Koontz. Her marriage was to Colonel John R. Zartman, USAF was in Monticello, IN, July 1954, and he preceded her in death February 27, 2010. She was also preceded by her stepfather, Clarence Mac McElroy and baby brother, John Cyrus Koontz (1931-1932). Marilyn was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and Ball State University. She was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. There, Marilyn, like her mother, loved playing the piano and singing in the church choir. She taught elementary grades before her marriage and applied these skills as a preschool and Sunday school teacher, mother, grandmother and aunt. Marilyn loved entertaining guests and family and playing bridge with her friends and board games with her children and grandchildren. All could sense her warmth and welcome smile when they were in her presence. She is survived by daughters, Susan (Jeff ) Johnson, Collierville, TN, Beth (Wes) Warren, Chesterfield, MO; son, Colonel David (Tacy) Zartman, Huntersville, NC; brother, Robert (D. Susan Lloyd) Koontz, Durham, NC; eight grandchildren, Greg (Erica Johnson), Kyle, Kent, Jill, Tara, Paige, Nicole, Austin; one great-grandchild, Ryan Alan; and one great-nephew, Ian Theodore. Memorial visitation will be 1 hour prior to the 10:30 am memorial service, Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Springer Voorhis Draper Funeral Home, 202 S. Illinois Street, Monticello, IN 47960. The family wishes to extend a warm welcome to the community to celebrate the life of this loving mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend. Private burial will be in Riverview I.O.O.F.
