Marie Anna Best

Marie Anna Best, 92, of Logansport died at 12 pm, Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Millers Merry Manor, Logansport. She was born September 22, 1917 in Jasper County Indiana to the late Clarence and Clara (Young) Riley. On January 10, 1939 in Chalmers, she married Coy S. Best who preceded her in death September 12, 1967. Marie graduated in 1936 from Wadena High School in Benton County. She was a member of the Pisgah Christian Church. She had worked at the Logansport State Hospital. She loved square dancing and was a member of the Bridge City Squares of Logansport, and also of Four Seasons Square Dance CL6 of Monticello. She also enjoyed mushroom hunting, traveling, and spending time with her family. She had lived around the Burnettsville area for 44 years coming from Brookston. In October of 1992 she moved to Logansport. Surviving are 3 daughters, Shirley L. (Don) Heiny of Idaville, Janet C. Baker of Logansport, Joyce C. Shaffer of Logansport; son, Jerry L. Best of Monticello; brother, Leonard L. Riley, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 20 Great-Grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gilbert and Ralph Riley; sister, Opal Souligne; and 2 grandsons, Danny and David Feltis. Visitation will be from 4pm until 8 pm, Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home located at 202 S. Illinois St., Monticello, IN 47960. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Monday at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Ryan Lewellen officiating. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery.
