Margaret Mary Spangle, 95, of Monticello, passed away at 1:15 pm, Monday, August 22, 2016 at White Oak Health Campus.She was born on December 25, 1920 in Calumet City, IL to the late Joseph E. and Regina (Huebner) Ernst. On February 14, 1942 she married DeLoss G. "Shorty" Spangle at St. Victors Catholic Church in Calumet City and he preceded her in death July 6, 1989.She was a graduate of Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City, IL. Margaret and her late husband lived in Calumet City, IL for 10 years and then moved to Monticello and built and operated Shorty's Dewey St. Welding shop for five years. They then moved the business to Idaville and operated Shorty's Welding Shop for seventeen years.She had worked at the Idaville Furniture Factory in the 1960's. They moved back to Monticello in 1974 and she retired from Alloy Rod Co. in 1981.She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and belonged to St. Anne's Circle.She was active in the Right to Life National Council of Catholic Women, Card of Caring, funeral dinner planners, and the Altar and Rosary Sodality. Surviving are her children, Donna (Larry) Musall of Monticello, Kenneth (Louise) Spangle of Monticello, Ralph (Judy) Spangle of Cutler, James (Joyce) Spangle of New Richmond; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.She was also preceded in death by her sister, Helen Robert.Visitation will be from 4:00 pm (EDT) until 8:00 pm (EDT) Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. The Rosary will be prayed at 3:45 pm (EDT), Thursday at the funeral home.A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am (EDT), Friday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father David Rasner celebrating.Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to Birth Right of Delphi with envelopes available at the funeral home and church.
