Margaret D. Smith

Margaret D. Smith, 81, of Monticello, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at her residence.She was born on July 5, 1937 in Monon to the late James A. and Mary L. (Altman) Owens. On June 29, 1957 she married William "Bill" Smith at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds. He preceded her in death on November 19, 2014.Margaret was a 1955 graduate of Monon High School and worked as a telephone operator for United Telephone until she and Bill were married and then was primarily a homemaker.She was an avid bowler and received many trophies representing her skill. She is survived by her daughter, Janiece A. (Clark) Nelson of Hillsboro, OR; two sisters, Eileen Marvin of Vero Beach, FL, Christine Williams of Monon; three brothers, David Owens of Monticello, John Owens of San Antonio, TX, Francis (Debbie) Owens of New Carlisle, OH; and many nieces and nephews.She was also preceded in death by a two brothers, Albert J. and Steve L. Owens, and sister, Joyce E. Owens.Visitation will be from 4pm until 8pm on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.Funeral services celebrating Margaret's life will be at 11 am, Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Keith Raderstorf officiating. Burial will follow in Yeoman Cemetery where Margaret will be laid to rest beside her beloved Bill.Memorial contributions may be given to White County Council on Aging or Salvation Army with envelopes available at the funeral home.Online condolences may be extended at www.springerfuneralhome.com
