Lula E. Garringer, 81, of Monticello, passed away at 5:22 pm, Sunday, February 9, 2014 at I.U. Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello . She was born on November 9, 1932 in Pulaski County to the late Cecil and Maggie (Baer) Van Meter. On October 28, 1951, she married William Garringer in Monticello in the Wesleyan Methodist Church, and he survives. She was a 1951 graduate of Monticello High School and was a homemaker. Mrs. Garringer was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monticello where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the VFW women's auxiliary. Mrs. Garringer enjoyed reading and needle point. She loved music, especially the Boogie Woogie as performed by Jerry Lee Lewis. She also enjoyed gospel music, especially songs by Jimmy Swaggart. Mrs. Garringer liked dancing the Jitter Bug. She enjoyed cooking and her daughter-in-law, Rose's Vietnamese spring rolls. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with her husband, Bill she is survived by two daughters, Ronda L. Tari of Lafayette, Julie K. (Peter) Dyer of Monticello; a son, Roger W. (Rose) Garringer of West Lafayette; sister, June Burnett of Monticello; eleven grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of services at 3:00 pm, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Ryan Bailey of the First Baptist Church of Monticello officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Monticello.
