Lucien "Loyd" Clerget, 80, of Monticello, passed away at 6:40 am, Monday, March 9, 2015 at I. U. Health White Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 16, 1934 in the family home in White County to the late Morris V. and Fern O. (Thrasher) Clerget. On September 5, 1955 he married Leatha Breedlove at Logansport and she survives. Loyd graduated from Reynolds High School in 1952 and attended Purdue University where earned a B.S. degree in Agriculture and Economics. When first married he worked at the A & P Company for thirteen years. After his father passed, he took over the family farm until his retirement at the age of 62. Loyd was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church where is was very active and served in many capacities including the church dart ball league. He was an avid horse shoe pitcher and pitched in several leagues. He was ranked #2 in the nation and was voted MVP for ten years in a row in Lafayette. He also enjoyed bowling and golf. He is survived by three sons, Vic (Peggy) Clerget of Lafayette, David (Judy) Clerget of West Lafayette, Steve (Trina) Clerget of Monticello; favorite daughter, Beth (Evan) Hatter of Monticello; sister, Alene (Gene) McKinley of Monticello; twelve grandchildren, Sean Clerget, Dan Clerget, Shaina Clerget, Ian Clerget, Seth Clerget, Nathan Smith, Natalie Crosby, Maggie Grinstead, Robby Hatter, Riley Clerget, Alex Clerget, Amy Clerget; and five great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Fleck. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Monon United Methodist Church. The family will also receive visitors one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday at the church with Rev. Russ Alley officiating. Burial will follow at Bedford Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Monon United Methodist Church with envelopes available.
