Lois Virginia Wolf Seward Cowger, 83, of Monticello passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 3:04 p.m. at Home Hospital Lafayette. She was born April 9, 1924 at her home in Camden, IN to the late Issac LeRoy Wolf and the late Lillie Mae (Kingery) Wolf. Her first marriage Charles L. Seward on April 4, 1944. He passed away May of 1949. Her second marriage was to Richard Eli Cowger on February 8, 1952, he passed away on January 23, 2002. She graduated from Camden High School in 1942. Mrs. Cowger lived in Lafayette from 1952-1960 and from 1962-1971. She worked for the Tippecanoe county Treasurer during property tax Collections in May and November. She lived in Wooster, Ohio from 1960-1961. She also lived in LaPort, IN from 1961-1962. Mrs. Cowger then moved to Bedford, VA from 1971-2000. While living in Bedford she received the Outstanding Citizens Award in 1981. She was very active in politics. She was elected to the Electoral Board in 1993. She was the Secretary of the electoral Board from 1994- until moving to Monticello in December 2000. Mrs. Cowger did volunteer work at the Bedford Methodist Church, Hospital Auxiliary, and Republician Party. She was also involved in the Garden Club in Bedford. Mrs. Cowger moved to Monticello in 2000. In Monticello she did volunteer work for the Monticello United Methodist Church, Friends of the Library and, the White County Hospital Aux. from 2002 until 2006. She loved crossword puzzles and was an avid bridge player, playing in many bridge groups, the most memorable was 1st place at the Tippecanoe County Club. Mrs. Cowger was constantly continuing to educate herself throughout her entire life. Survivors include 3 Daughters, Sharon (Skip) Holcomb of Battle ground, IN, Karen C. (Greg) Heilman of Suffolk, VA, Marcia (Clay) Compton of Rocky Mt., NC 4 Grandsons, Kirk (Mary) Holcomb of Grove City, OH, Aaron (Brenda) Holcomb of Milwaukee, WI, John Compton of Raleigh, NC, Matthew Heilman of Suffolk, VA 2 Granddaughters, Ashley (Brad) Holcomb Fischer of Simponsville, SC, Chaya Compton of Cleveland Heights, OH Great-Grandchildren, Madelyn and Mya Holcomb of Grove City, OH; Luke Fischer of Simpsonville, SC She was preceded in death parents; first husband, Charles L. Seward; second husband, Richard Eli Cowger; Siblings, Lucille Hughes, Eva Penn, Mandford Wolf, Pearl Mills, and Frances Miller. Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm, Friday, January 11, 2008 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to 11 am services Saturday at the Monticello United Metodist Church. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Monticello United Methodist Church, Saturday, January 12, 2008, 11 a.m. Rev. Brian Beeks Burial will take place Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in rural Monticello. Memorials may be made to the Monticello United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and also at the church.
