Lois L. Smith, 101, of Monticello passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Monticello Healthcare in Monticello.
She was born on June 15, 1922 in Rockfield, Indiana to the late John Herman and Marie Fidler (Coble) Quinn.
Lois married Max L. Mills in April of 1942. He was missing in action in WWII on the submarine USS Wahoo. She then married Glenn F. Smith on May 11, 1946, who preceded her in death in June of 1995.
Lois graduated from Logansport High School in 1942. After marrying Max, they went to California where Max was stationed in the Navy. She worked for the Machine Company at Camp Haan in California. She was in the Army theater dance group that traveled to raise money for war bonds. Lois was a tap dance teacher and helped with the dance routines in the program. They raised the most money and earned an Army certificate.
Lois worked and retired after 26 years from switches. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, reading, traveling and shopping. Lois belonged to the VFW ladies auxiliary, American Legion and two euchre clubs. When she was younger she was the Den Mother and volunteered for the Heart Association, State Hospital and Salvation Army and others. She had taken several people into her home when they were in need of a place to stay. Lois was always laughing and leaves her family with fond memories.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Mike) Schroeder of Reynolds and two sister-in-laws, Mara Smith and Carol Smith; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by a sons, Richard and Larry Smith; brother, Dallas Quinn and sisters, Helen Jean Wolf and E. Maxine Overstreet.
Private family services and burial are being coordinated at Ever Rest Memorial Park in Logansport.
