Linda Fain

Margaret "Linda" Fain, 66, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 12, 2013. She was born to the late Francis and Rosemary (Quinn) Eaton on November 9, 1946, in Jersey City, New Jersey. Linda graduated from Morehead State University, where she met and married her husband of 45 years, Ed Fain, and he survives. Linda was a high school physical education teacher in New Jersey until her family was transferred to West Lafayette, IN, in 1978. For several years, Linda worked at Culligan selling water softeners, was a substitute teacher, and, a high school cheerleading coach. Ed and Linda moved to Monticello in 1989. They were the proprietors of Eddie's Restaurant and Lounge, in Monticello from 1997-2010. Throughout those years, Linda would host many wedding receptions, Jimmy Buffet nights, Breakfasts with Santa, and more. Linda loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She would attend all of their various ball games, school events, and was always willing to baby sit or take the kids for a round of Skee-ball at Indiana Beach. She also enjoyed going to Las Vegas, Chicago, and to Hutchinson Island, Florida. When Linda was at home, you would find her watching reality TV shows, especially Survivor, any of the Real Housewives, or, Dancing With the Stars (Linda was a great dancer and still had great moves). But, her favorite sitcom was The Big Bang Theory. To Linda's friends, she was the technology guru. She would text, email, or use Facebook to communicate. Her friends would even ask her for help when they needed it. With her outgoing personality, Linda never knew a stranger. And, if she did not know someone, she would introduce herself, ask lots of questions, and find out all about them and their family. Our family is certain she knew everyone in Monticello. Linda was passionate about serving her community. Her philanthropic spirit was shown through her various volunteer activities for the past 40 years. Linda had served as President of Psi Iota Xi, Gamma Mu Chapter and as the West Central District Officer for the National Committee. Most recently, Linda was the President of the IU Health White Memorial Hospital Foundation board. She chaired the annual Hospital Gala event since its inception, and could often be found emceeing local events: Fashion Shows, Ladies Night Out, She was also the Chair of the Women Giving Together fund, through the White County Community Foundation. Linda wrote a bi-monthly column, Life with Linda, for the Monticello Herald Journal. Her column was her way to tell people about not only her life, but also her memories (she remembered everything!). At the end of many of her columns, she would say, "Well friends, hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane." She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (husband Donald) Layton, and Jillian (husband Daniel) Layton both of Battle Ground; four grandchildren, Edmond, Thomas, Brodryck and Annabelle Layton; two nephews, Jason and Francis P. Eaton; and a niece, Melissa Figueroa. Linda was preceded in death by her brother, Francis W. Eaton. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm Friday, May 17 at Springer-Springer-Voorhis Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 am, Saturday, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father Gerald Borawski celebrating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the White County Community Foundation, where an endowment fund will be established in her honor.
