Lewis David Dellinger Jr. Monticello Attorney for 35 years October 9th 1938 "March 1st 2009 The family of Lewis David Dave Dellinger Jr,.70, gives notice to the world of his passing this the first day of March 2009. Dave was born to Lewis David Dellinger and Kathryn J. McGraw Dellinger in Lafayette, Indiana October 9th 1938. He graduated from Monticello High School in1956. He received his Bachelors Degree from Indiana University in 1960 and Law Degree from Indiana University in 1966. Dave served in the United States Army as a Signal Corps Officer from 1959 through 1963. He was elected White County Prosecutor in 1966 serving White County for two terms and was the President of the Indiana Prosecutors Association. He practiced law in his family firm with both his father and son from 1966 until his retirement due to injuries in 2001. Dave was admitted to practice law in Indiana after his election as White County Prosecutor in 1966. He was admitted to the Indiana Northern and Southern Federal District Courts as well as admitted to practice in front of the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Dave was a long time member of the board of directors for the Bank of Reynolds and Peoples Savings and Loan. He represented the Monticello Redevelopment Commission post 1974 tornado helping to obtain state and federal funding for the reconstruction of Monticello. He founded Court Street Management Co. which managed the operation and construction of 278 low-income senior citizens apartments in both White and Cass counties. As a life long Boy Scout and troop leader, Dave took troops to National Jamborees, Canadian High Adventure excursions, and to Philmont, New Mexico. He was a loyal fund raiser for both the Three Rivers and Sagamore Councils serving as the Vice President and President of the Sagamore Council from 1977 through 1979 and serving on the counsel for nearly 40 years. In 1980, the Sagamore Council awarded him the Summa Grand Award and the Silver Beaver Award. In 1987, the Distinguished Veteran Award was bestowed to Dave. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and Phi Delta Phi fraternity. He was a member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club, Libanus Lodge No. 154 F&AM, the White County Shrine Club of Monticello and the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine, both of Indianapolis. Dave was a member of the White County Bar Association, Indiana Bar Association, and American Bar Association. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello teaching Sunday school, serving as a deacon of the church, and acting as a member of the building committee. He loved to hunt and play golf. Dave played varsity golf on a scholarship for Indiana University and for his military base while in the service. As a life long member, he won the Tippecanoe Country Club mens championship in 1960, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1973 and his favorite championship, the mens two man best ball, in 1993 with his son. First and foremost, Dave was a loving and dedicated husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Nina Beth (Whitehead) Dellinger, their only two children Andrea Dellinger-Winegardner of Libertyville, Illinois, Lewis Dowal Dellinger (Stephanie) of Monticello, Indiana, and his five grandchildren Elizabeth J. Winegardner, Andrew David Winegardner, Thomas J.Winegardner, Lewis D. Dellinger, and Leo A. Dellinger. He is also survived by his only sister Mrs. William (Carmalieta) Jenkins of Hamilton Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 4th at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. William Weckerly and Rev. Ruby Kleymann officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday March 3rd at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello Indiana and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the IOOF Riverview Cemetery with full military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Sagamore Council or to the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.
