Lester J. Westberg

Lester John Westberg, 96, of Monticello, died at 8:25pm, Saturday, July 9, 2011, at I.U. White Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born March 23, 1915 in Rockford, IL to the late Erick and Ellen (Carlson) Westberg. His marriage was to Millie Byers on May 5, 1947 in Geneva, IL. She survives in Monticello. He was a 1932 graduate of Sycamore High School in Sycamore, IL. Mr. Westberg was a veteran of U.S. Navy serving in WWII. He worked for Diamond Wire for six years before transferring to Byrans Manufacturing where he retired as a foreman. He was a charter member of the Calvary Temple. Mr. Westberg served on the church board for several years. He was a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed boating and lived on Lake Shafer for 20 years. He was a real do-it-yourself person. He built his home in Sycamore. Mr. Westberg enjoyed carpentary and served on three church building programs. He is also survived by, Daughter, Deborah (Alan) Memmer of Monticello, IN; Son, David J. (Jeanie) Westberg of South Bend, IN; Five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Westberg and two sisters Gevevieve Hart and Margaret Frank. Visitation will be from 12pm to 2pm, Saturday, July 16 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Rev. Charlie Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in rural Monticello with full military rites. Memorials may be given to the Calvary Temple of Monticello.
