Lawrence Barton, 87, of Monticello, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at his residence.


He was born on October 24, 1935 in Monticello to the late Paul and Lillian (Enz) Barton. On June 24, 1962 he married the former Betty Kuchera at the Presbyterian Church in Monticello. She survives.


Lawrence was a graduate of Monticello High School and served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Chalmers Community Church. He was a tool and die maker. He served as vice president of Clayborn Manufacturing Company formerly of Monticello. He also worked for Basset Rotary Tool and Flight Way Engineering from which he retired. He was a 50 year member and Past Master of Libanus Lodge #154 F&AM of Monticello, Crystal Chapter OES #165 of Monticello, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis, and the White County Shrine Club. Lawrence enjoyed working in the yard and competitive archery.


In addition to his wife, Betty of Monticello, he is survived by son, Les Barton of Winamac; two granddaughters, Danielle (Brad) Glasgow of Union Mills and Adrienne Barton of Winamac; three great grandchildren, Emily, Sawyer and Hayley; and his dog and faithful companion, Hogan.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Barton.


Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, May 5, 2023 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Masonic rites will be at 7pm, Friday at the funeral home followed by a Shrine Walk By.


Funeral services celebrating Lawrence's life will be at 10:30 am Saturday at the funeral home with Joseph Bein of Chalmers Community Church officiating.


Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monticello with military rites.


Memorial contributions may be given to the Chalmers Community Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
