KATHRYN "KATHY" MARGARET MENGE VIERS Kathryn "Kathy" Margaret Menge Viers, 64, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Lancaster and Madison, TN, died at 9:50 pm, on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Hospice and Community Care, Mt Joy. Kathy was born in Lancaster on July 14, 1949 to the late Daniel Menge and Jeanne (Boas) Menge, she survives. Kathy lived in Neffsville and West Willow as a child before moving to Strasburg's Grasshopper Level in 1956. She was a 1967 graduate of Pequea Valley High School and graduated from Penn State Harrisburg in 1989 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She was a favorite school teacher and taught science and social studies at Bailey Middle School in Nashville, TN. She was also Assistant Director of the Elizabethtown Kids Center, currently known as GEARS, from 1995 - 1996. She was a proud mother of three daughters and was active as a girl scout leader, softball coach, and hosted the best public haunted house in Elizabethtown. She was a past member of the Elizabethtown Jaycettes and was host for the Miss Elizabethtown Pageant for several years. She was known as "mom" to all of the neighborhood children. She loved Christmas and Halloween. She enjoyed reading, oil painting, making up silly songs and writing books for her grandchildren. She always said "You love your kids but you love your grandchildren even more". She cherished every moment she had with her family, but especially loved her time spent with or talking to her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her world. She is survived by 3 daughters, Jennifer Monroe (Michael) Johnson of West Lafayette, IN, Jodi (Eric) Stapler of Lancaster, Jami (Charles) Harris of Elizabethtown; her mother, Jeanne Menge of Conowingo, MD; 5 grand-daughters, Emma Viers of Elizabethtown, Alexis Monroe of W. Lafayette, IN, Natalie Harris of Elizabethtown, Kenley Stapler of Lancaster, and Reese Johnson of W. Lafayette, IN; 7 grand-sons, Jordan Monroe of W. Lafayette, IN, Alexander, Zachary and Isaac Stapler of Lancaster, Logan Harris of Elizabethtown, Jaedan and Noah Johnson of West Lafayette, IN; one sister, Karyl (Allen) Louthian of Conowingo, MD; and several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. She was also preceded in death by her father, Daniel Menge; grandmother, Katherine Menge; grandparents, Harry and Thelma Boas; one aunt, Karen Howett; and one cousin, David Howett. Services will be private. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at Jodi's house, 108 St. Thomas Rd, Lancaster, on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 2pm - 4pm. At 4 pm, anyone who would like to share their memories or thoughts are encouraged to do so. Kathryn loved Christmas, so wear your best Christmas colors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given in Kathryn's name to the Lancaster Cancer Center, 1858 Charter Lane, Lancaster, PA 17601 or to any one of the girls to help with expenses.
