John U. Ferdinand, 94, of Reynolds died at 10:35 pm, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center. He was born June 29, 1915 in Illinois to the late Harm and Maggie (Theesfeld) Ferdinand. His marriage was to Frances Rose Richardson on November 2, 1946 at the St. James Lutheran parsonage in Reynolds. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2003. John was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He was a life long farmer. He also owned and operated a corn shelling and lime hauling business. He had served on the Reynolds Town Board and served on the Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the American Legion and also the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed spending time at the USA Restaurant Coffee Club. He and Frances were selected twice to be Grand Marshals at The Heart of White County Festival in Reynolds. He cherished time spent with his family and loved children, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include 2 daughters, Leah Ann (Bob) Marion of Monon, Rose Ann (Frank) Vaughn of New Whiteland; son, Lee Wayne (Mary) Ferdinand of Reynolds; 1 Sister, Gertrude "Gertie" Johns of Monon; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death is a brother Harm Ferdinand; sister, Hanna Brock; daughter Kay Rothenberger; and very recently, a grandson, Scott Ferdinand. Visitation will be from 4pm until 8 pm, Friday, March 5 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Charles Blakey of St. James Lutheran Church of Reynolds officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello. Memorials may be given to Reynolds First Response, or to the St. James Lutheran Church Elevator Fund.
