John S. Briney

John S. Briney, 66, of Star City, formerly of Monticello, went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2013 in Lafayette due to complications from cancer. He passed in the presence of his family. He was born in Logansport on September 25, 1946 to the late John "Jack" A. Briney and Mary Jane (Stults) Briney of Peoria, AZ. He married his childhood sweetheart Mary B. Hughes on May 15, 1965 in Lansing, Michigan. He is survived by his faithful wife, Mary. He is also survived by his loving daughters, Amy "Sis" Mathew and her husband Scott of Monon and Tricia "Punkin" LaGrange and her husband Nathan of Indianapolis. He was the proud grandfather "Boppy" to five adoring grandchildren, Clayton "Scooter" Mathew of Monon, Connor "Tex" LaGrange, Lauren "Lil Punkin" LaGrange, Carter "Bud" LaGrange and Mercy "Butterfly Princess LaGrange all of Indianapolis. Also surviving is a brother, Jerry (Candy) Briney of Peoria, AZ. He is also survived by his steadfast companion, Dozer. He was a 1964 graduate of Twin Lakes High School and he attended Ball State and Indiana State Universities. He was a member of the National Guard and had retired from NIPSCO after 38 years and was also a member of the Family Worship Center. Visitation will be from 12 pm until time of service at 2 pm, Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview IOOF Cemetery, rural Monticello. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Dave Roever Foundation.
