John 'Pete' S. Miller

John S. "Pete" Miller, 75, of Monticello, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at his residence surrounded by family.
He was born on January 11, 1945 in Quincy, IL to John Virgil and Bernice (Mozingo) Miller. On May 21, 1966 he married Linda Minger and she survives in Monticello.
He was a graduate of Chicago Vocational High School and worked as a pipe fitter/welder for Common Wealth Edison from where he retired.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.
Pete liked camping, building models, and was a collector of steam locomotives, military medals, ribbons, patches and hat devices. He enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to travel to all seven continents. He enjoyed time spent with his family and most especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by four children, Kimberly (Edward) Valich of Lowell, John P. (companion Rita Cave) Miller of Plainfield, IL, Gregory (Amy) Miller of Ada, OK, Mary (Jason) Tackett of Crown Point; grandchildren, David, Isabella, Aydia, Kaelie and Sophia Miller, William and Jeremy Hunding, Faye, Lydia, Clara and Eleanor Tackett; great-granddaughter, Adelyn Shidler.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert "Butch" Carson.
Visitation will be Friday, September 11, 2020 from 5 pm EDT until 9 pm EDT at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.
Private funeral services will be Saturday at the funeral home with Fr. Chris Miller of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church officiating.
Under current COVID 19 state mandates, masks are required.
Burial will follow in Riverview I. O. O. F. Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are encouraged to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
