Joann J. Funk, 72, of Monticello, passed away at 9:36 pm, Saturday, December 26, 2015 at I U Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello.She was born on November 28, 1943 in Logansport to the late John and Emma (Rieken) Girtz. On July 11, 1965 she married Bill Funk at the St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds and he survives. She retired as a receptionist and greeter from Hubbards GM Center. She worked part-time in the catalog department at the former Montgomery Wards here in Monticello, and also as a secretary at both Our Savior and New Hope Lutheran Churches. Joann worked the election polls ultimately reaching the highest position of judge.She was a charter member of New Hope Lutheran Church and helped facilitate church dinners and functions.She enjoyed cross stitching, crossword puzzles, baking and cooking and was known for her wacky chocolate cake. In earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with Bill all over the United States in their Winnebago. She and Bill fostered many children of all ages, infants to 14 years of age and used to host an annual pool party for all the foster children.Also surviving in addition to her husband, Bill is a daughter, Jill (husband, Alan) Hines of Lafayette; and grandchildren, Jordan, Hailey, and Emma.Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Thursday.Funeral services celebrating Joann's life will be at 10:30 am Thursday at New Hope Lutheran Church with Rev. Dwayne Daehler officiating.Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to New Hope Lutheran Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
