Jimmie D. Powers

Jimmie Dale Powers, 83, of West Lafayette, formerly of Monticello, passed away at 1:56 pm, Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Indiana Veterans' Home. He was born on April 30, 1932 in Fordsville, KY to the late William and Nona (Welch) Powers. On October 22, 1949 he married Betty Snyder in Hartford, KY and she survives and lives in Monticello. He served in the United States Navy. He was a Gas Area Supervisor for NIPSCO from which he retired in 1990. Jimmie was a member of AMVETS, Eagles, VFW, and the American Legion all of Monticello. Jimmie loved music and was a semi-professional musician playing and entertaining all across Indiana. He is also survived by six children, Dawn (Roger) McCall of Monticello, Jimmie Powers of Monticello, Gordon (Deb) Powers of Lebanon, Del Rae Hayes of Monticello, Perry (Kim) Powers of Monticello, Dianna (John) Whyde of Indianapolis; siblings, Larry (Audrey) Powers of CA, and Linda (Glenn) Runion of TX; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Powers; and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm (ET) until 8:00 pm (ET) Monday, November 9, 2015 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am (ET) Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Dana Hood of the Guernsey Church of the Brethren officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery with his niece, Rev. Pammalee Hughes officiating the committal service. Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello Funeral Honor Guard.
