Janet M. Pigecella, 70, of Brookston, passed away at 3:47 pm, Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at I.U. Health Hospital in Lafayette. She was born on January 20, 1945 in Blue Island, Illinois to the late Harold and Pearl (Godwin) Thomas. On November 20, 1965 she married Paul James Pigecella in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2005. Ms. Pigecella was a 1963 graduate from Monon High School. Ms. Pigecella was a member of Our Lady of theLakes Catholic Church, and attended many area churches. She owned Sharim's Persians and breed Persian Himalayan cats. She also raised and breed poodles. She worked as a surgical technician in Monticello and Logansport. Ms. Pigecella also worked in the Pet Store formerly in Monticello. She worked at a group home in Lafayette. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Monticello, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary in Monticello/Lafayette, and also the past president of the Monticello AMVETS. Ms. Pigecella was always willing to aid those in need. She enjoyed crafts, her pets, cooking, playing cards, and board games. She cherished time spent with her family and was an avid story teller. She is survived by significant other, Theodore "Ted" Wheeldon of Brookston; son, Anthony "Tony" (Penny) Pigecella of Delphi; two daughters, Annette (Scott) Wheeldon of Brookston, Jennifer Pigecella (Fianc Jim Boyer) of Monticello; brother-in-law, John Sheek of Monticello; sister, Lela Sekowski of Odessa,, MO; four granddaughters, Brukentta Bassett-Geisler, Cynaka (Darren) Carr, Sharim (Caleb) Shields, and Jade Wharff; three grandsons, Nathan (Tosha) Arbuckle, Levi Wheeldon (Fianc, Vanessa Blankenship), and Nicholas Cheever; twelve great grandchildren; several step-brothers and sisters from Monon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many other extended family members. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Sheek; granddaughter, Yentl Pigecella; and a grandson, Shadron Bassett. Visitation will be on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 4pm to 7pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services will follow at 7pm at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating from the Monticello Christian Church. Private burial will be at Bedford Cemetery in Monon. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Legion Riders Post 492. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
