James Edward Kelly, 87, of Plymouth, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Millers Merry Manor in Plymouth.

He was born on January 11, 1936 in Chalmers to the late Harmon D. and Bernice (Wakeman) Kelly.  On February 15, 1958 he married Dolores Kirchgessner in Delphi. she survives.

He was a 1954 graduate of Chalmers High School.  James was a member of the Monticello Christian Church.  He had lived in Chalmers for 71 years, moving to Monticello from 2007-2022. James was a farmer for 44 years, retiring in 1998.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge for 50 years and Sons of the American Legion Post #268 of Chalmers. James enjoyed bowling on the Moose and Co-op teams for many years.  He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and playing games.  

He is survived by his wife, Dolores of Plymouth, his sons, Dan (Julie) Kelly of Plymouth, Mike Kelly of Farmington, AR, Mark (Kathy) Kelly of Monticello; two sisters, Carol Lee Bick of Monticello, Mary Lou (John) Long of Reynolds; sister-in-law, Karon Kelly of West Lafayette; grandchildren, April (Jarrod) Bradley, Megan Walleske, Jon Kelly, Jennifer Kelly, Amanda Kelly (partner, J.T. Stewart), and Allene Kelly; two bonus grandchildren, Morgan Elijah and Ryan Veach; and great-grandchildren, Owen Walleske and A.J. Donaldson.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brother, Max Kelly and brother-in-law, Herb Bick. 

Private family services and burial will be in Chalmers Cemetery. Rev. Lelan McReynolds will officiate services.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, Chalmers Community Cemetery, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
