James H. 'Jim' Mann

James H. "Jim" Mann, 80, of Monticello passed away at 3:50 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2009 at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center. He was born October 4, 1928 in Indianapolis to the late Altas and Alice (Hooker) Mann. His marriage was to Joan E. "Jo" Simon November 28, 1953 in Fremont, OH, and she survives. Mr. Mann graduated from Monticello High School. He also attended Purdue University. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Mann was a member of the Monticello First Presbyterian Church where he was very active and served in many capacities. Mr. Mann served as White County Commissioner and also as Councilman for more than 20 years. He began his insurance career at Koontz Insurance in Monticello, which he later owned. Following the 1974 tornado, he merged the business with Heiny Insurance Agency where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of the Monticello Kiwanis club and the Tippecanoe Country Club. He was a member of Libanus Lodge # 154 F &AM, White County Shrine Club, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. Mr. Mann enjoyed golf, working outside, and time spent with his neighbors. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his son, Jim (Rachel) Mann of Monticello, and a cousin who has been like a sister, Dona (Don) Sell of Huntertown, IN. He is also survived by grandsons, Darren and Austin Mann. Jim was raised by his aunt and uncle, Margaret and Herman Mann who are deceased. Visitation will be from 4pm until 8pm, Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello and also one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello with the Rev. Ruby Kleymann officiating. Burial will be at the Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery with full military rites. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church building fund or to the White County Relay for Life. Envelopes will be available at the Church.
