James H. Bowman, Jr.

James H. Bowman, Jr., 85, of Monticello and resident of St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi for 1 1/2 years, died on January 6, 2010 at 11:00pm at Clarian Arnett Hospital. He was born on October 26, 1924 in Economy, Indiana to the late James Harold and Irene (Dennis) Bowman, Sr. On April 7, 1977 in Monticello, he married Judith A. Kielkowski. She survives in Monticello. He was a graduate of West Lafayette High School. Mr. Bowman was also a graduate of Purdue University in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and Industrial Management. He also played 2nd chair Saxophone in the Purdue Orchestra. Mr. Bowman worked 40 years as an Allstate Insurance agent, starting in 1953. He won numerous awards and earned Allstates Honor Ring distinction for 17 straight years and was top salesmen over a 5 state area. Mr. Bowman also owned Clearview Resort at Indiana Beach for 25 years. Mr. Bowman was active in community and local organizations. He was past president of Lafayette Optimist Club and a leader of Lafayette Sea Scouts. He was director of S.F.L.E.C.C. in Monticello for 2 years. Mr. Bowman was also a member of Monticello Kiwanis Club, and the Resort owners Association in Monticello. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating on Lakes Shafer and Freeman. He enjoyed camping and traveling to every state in the U.S., including Great Britain, France, Canada and Mexico. He is also survived by a Son, Stephen (Barbara) Bowman of Delphi; Daughter, Nancy A. Bowman of Delphi; Step Daughter, Robin Kielkowski of Wilmington Delaware; Step son, Ron Kielkowski of Noblesville; Granddaughter, Jacqueline A. (Mike) Davis Hall of Lafayette; 3 Grandsons, Josh Davis of Chicago, Brett Davis of Nebraska, Aaron Rosenfeld of Pennsylvania and 5 Great Grandchildren He is preceded in death by his first wife, Gayle L. Watson Bailey and daughter Linda S. Bowman Davis. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 1pm to 2pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. A memorial service wil be held at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 2pm with Rev. Keith Raderstorf officiating.
